Petunias (Petunia spp.) are versatile annuals, providing a bounty of bright colour from early summer until fall. They come in four main categories that span the colour spectrum, including large grandifloras, compact multifloras, miniature millifloras, and spreading, trailing forms. Although big, cascading grandifloras are the traditional choice for containers, any type will work and adapt to life on a patio or balcony.
